Who we are

Mosso is operated by Diffuse Digital LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. If you have a question about this policy or your information, email privacy@mosso.fm.

What we collect

  • Your account: your name and email address.
  • Songs you register: titles, recordings, and each writer’s and owner’s name, email address, ownership share, role, and registration details such as IPI numbers, performing rights organization and publishing arrangements.
  • Releases: the audio files, artwork and release details you upload, such as titles, credits, release dates, identifiers (ISRC and UPC), and what you tell us about any use of generative AI.
  • People you name. When you register a song, you give us your co-writers’ and co-owners’ names and email addresses. They haven’t signed up with us, so we use their details only for the songs they’re named on (see below).
  • Signatures: when an agreement is signed, our e-signature provider records the signature along with details such as the time and the signer’s IP address, as a record that the right person signed.
  • Identity and payout details. Before you release music or receive money, Stripe, our payments provider, verifies who you are and where to pay you. Stripe collects your legal name, date of birth, address, government ID, tax ID and bank account directly. We don’t receive your ID document, full tax ID or bank account number; we receive whether you’re verified and whether Stripe needs anything more.
  • Earnings: sales, streams and royalties for your releases, by store and country, which we receive from our distribution partner and the stores, and the license fees and payouts recorded in your account.
  • License buyers: when someone licenses a song, their name, company, email address and details of the project. Card and bank payments are handled by Stripe; we don’t receive card numbers.
  • Technical information: cookies needed to keep you signed in, and server logs we use to keep the service secure and working. We don’t use advertising cookies.

How we use it

  • To prepare split agreements and collect signatures on them.
  • To ask a co-writer for registration details you don’t have, when you choose to.
  • To register songs with the organizations that collect songwriting royalties once everyone has signed.
  • To deliver your releases to music stores and streaming services through our distribution partner, and to remove them when asked.
  • To check releases before they’re delivered: their details, audio quality, and, using content recognition, whether they match recordings that belong to someone else. This protects you, other artists and the stores from infringement and impersonation.
  • To verify your identity before your first release and before we pay you.
  • To sell licenses for songs whose rights holders have opted in, and to issue the license documents.
  • To calculate and pay what you’re owed, keep financial records, and meet tax reporting obligations.
  • To detect artificial streaming and fraud, which stores penalize and which can affect every artist on Mosso.
  • To handle copyright complaints, takedown requests, disputes and claims.
  • To save the people you’ve written with as contacts in your account, so you can add them to future songs.
  • To send the emails described on our email preferences page.
  • To keep the service secure, and to meet legal obligations.

We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use it for advertising.

If someone named you on a song

We contact you only about songs you’re named on. For each one, we send one request for your registration details, with a link that works for 14 days. We don’t send reminders; if the link expires, the person registering the song can send you a new one. You can ask us to stop all requests to your address. If you don’t know the person who named you, tell us at privacy@mosso.fm and we’ll remove your address.

Who we share it with

  • The other people on a song. An agreement shows each party’s name, share and registration details to everyone who signs it. The people on a song can also see the licenses sold on it, including the buyer’s name or company.
  • Stores and our distribution partner. To release your music, we send its audio, artwork, release details, credits and AI disclosures to our distribution partner, which delivers them to the stores you choose. Stores show credits publicly.
  • Stripe, for license payments, identity verification, payouts and tax forms.
  • Registration bodies. When a song is registered, we send its details to performing rights organizations, The MLC and the registration services that deliver registrations to them.
  • Other service providers that run parts of Mosso for us: Amazon Web Services for hosting and email, BoldSign for electronic signatures, and content-recognition services that check uploads.
  • People involved in a claim. If someone tells us a release infringes their rights, or a store reports a problem with it, we may share the relevant details with them, our distribution partner and the stores involved, to resolve it.
  • When the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the service.

Where it is stored

Your information is stored in the United States. If you use Mosso from elsewhere, your information is transferred to the United States to provide the service. Releases are delivered to stores worldwide, so their details are also processed wherever those stores operate.

How long we keep it

  • Signed agreements and registration records are kept for as long as the song earns royalties and as the law requires, because every writer on the song relies on them.
  • Records of sales, royalties, licenses and payouts are kept for at least seven years, for tax and accounting purposes.
  • Stripe keeps identity verification records under its own privacy policy.
  • A request for details that goes unanswered expires, and the details collected for it are deleted.
  • When you close your account, we delete your account information, except records other people rely on — such as agreements you’ve signed with them — and financial records we must keep.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law. Email privacy@mosso.fm and we’ll respond within 30 days.

Security

We encrypt information in transit and at rest, and limit access to the people and systems that need it.

Children

Mosso isn’t intended for children under 13. Releasing music, selling licenses and receiving payments require you to be an adult.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above, and we’ll tell account holders by email about any significant change.
